MELAKA: Despite the gloomy economic and financial landscape, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd has set a 30% growth target for its insurance business, says group managing director Datuk Mohd Hassan Kamil.
He said insurance was an important requirement similar to vehicle insurance, a must-have document by vehicle owners.
Takaful Malaysia, in business for 25 years, would also review its operational structure, management and products to cope with the competition from conventional insurance companies, he told reporters after the opening of a new office at Jalan Munsyi Abdullah.
The office was opened by state executive councillor for welfare, unity, youth and sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Sulaiman, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
On Takaful operations, the company earned RM800 million in premiums from 75,000 insurance policy onwers — 25,000 health insurance and 50,000 family insurance, such as life and education insurance, last year.
To fulfil its corporate social responsibility, Mohd Hassan said Takaful has launched “Takaful MyJalinan” to channel all forms of company aid to charity, including zakat (tithe) contributions.
Earlier, Mohd Ali, in his speech, said the state economy’s macro-level performance was better from the national level and other states.
The average state gross domestic product growth was 5.9% over the last eight years, he added. — Bernama
